Be God's Writing Device
I saw the above quote on a friend's Facebook page recently & right away, I felt the message was directed straight to me! How many times have I been overwhelmed with the trials & struggles in my life? And during those times, how many have I gone directly to God for guidance instead of attempting to solve the issue in my own?
Many people think that having faith & trust in God means they'll never face adversity & problems. Everything in life will go exactly as planned & they'll always be happy. The thing is, the plans are theirs not God's. Anytime we deviate from what God has planned for us, things will go haywire. Oh, they might seem great for a while, but eventually, we realize that what we thought was fulfilling a need deep within us was just a fleeting thing. There is still an emptiness inside that we find (hopefully sooner rather than later) can only be filled by God.
We sometimes have a tendency to trust God only until our immediate need or want is met, then go back to relying on ourselves. Other times, we may feel that God is asking us to do something that is hard or way outside our comfort zone, so we ignore Him. He is persistent, though, & quite possessive of that pen of His!
God's talent goes far beyond anything we could ever make on our own. If He can create this beautiful universe out of nothing & see that it was good, imagine how much He can do in your life! Trust in Him & let His pen create an amazing life for you!
In fact, be the pen in His Hand. St. Teresa of Calcutta once said, "I am a little pencil in God's Hands. He does the thinking. He does the writing. He does everything and sometimes it is really hard because it is a broken pencil and He has to sharpen it a little more."
Those periods when we just don't think we can go further in following Him or we feel the tasks He asks of us are too difficult are when we are being sharpened! Whether He's using us as a pen for a final writing with no mistakes, a pencil that might require some erasing or sharpening, a paintbrush to add a little color to life, or any other writing device, let Him do His work within us so that we can do His work in the world! God knows our individual stories from beginning to end & He will continue to write it until it reaches perfection, when we pass from this life into Eternity with Him.
